A 16-year-old British boy wrote on his Facebook page that he was going to commit suicide, and the parents of a teenage girl in Maryland notified officials who were able to reach the depressed boy before he died.
The unidentified boy was chatting with the Maryland girl on the social networking web site around 6 p.m Wednesday night when he told her he was about to kill himself.
The unidentified girl alerted her mother, who then contacted Maryland police, which sparked a sting of emergency calls between the White House, the British Embassy in Washington, Scotland Yard and finally Thames Valley Police.
The Maryland girl was only able to give authorities the boy’s name and his school in Oxfordshire; however, police were able to find the teenager.
When police arrived at his home, they found the boy barely conscious in his bedroom from an apparent overdose.
He was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he is expected to make a full recovery.
