The python escaped from its cage in the middle of the night and strangled Shaiunna Hare while she was asleep.
When the snake’s owner, Charles Jason Darnell, realized the snake was missing, he went into the toddler’s bedroom and saw the snake wrapped around the child with bite marks on her head.
Darnell, who is the boyfriend of the child’s mother, stabbed the snake until he was able to pry the child away.

A 2-year-old girl was strangled at her home this morning by her family’s 12-foot pet python, officials said.
According to reports, the fatal incident occurred around 10:00 this morning while the toddler’s parents were at home.
It is not clear if the snake got loose or if someone was handling it when the python bit the child on the forehead.
According to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, pythons are a nonnative species to Florida and most of them are brought over as pets then let loose in the wild.
They are asking anyone who comes across a python to call wildlife officials at 1-888-404-FWCC.

It’s in a tank with a locking screen cover and right now it’s not even as long as his arm. it will only grow to be 4-6′ but I now know to really watch out for it and maybe remove it from his room.
I can’t believe any parent would allow their children to have a sort of pet that is able to kill them, and I am outraged that parents would have them as pets with children in the house. Come on America it’s time to realize wild animals and reptiles belong in wild or controlled environment. You can’t really be this stupid…….
I am tired of hearing stories like this. No one should be able to own a dangerous snake like this. The owner and mother should be charged with reckless endangerment of a child and thrown in jail. Better yet, throw them in a room with a full grown python and see how they like being constricted. These people are idiots and it pisses me off that there are so many others that are just as stupid.
I am so tired of this in Arizona its child drowning and guns. What the heck is wrong with parents! Why would anyone allow a CHILD to have a pet python or any animal like that. It is called PARENTING NOT FRIENDS WITH YOUR KIDS! Also its always the mom’s boyfriend. Does anyone no how to live alone? Your kid is 2 and you have a new boyfriend? Maybe you should spend more time PARENTING THEN PARTYING. Not nowing the child was dead until 10am? I hope you work nights, Oh if you even work at all. Totally disgusting!
are people really this stupid, it appears so, common sense should tell them that it was NOT OK to keep a snake like that in their home. There should be some consequences over this, although the poor baby girl died a horrible death

People need to be educated about snakes! A python kills somebody and it makes national news, yet everyday people including children are injured, attacked, and killed by family dogs or horses. Oh yeah, those are accepted pets by society, so it isn’t as tragic. I think its horrible what happened to the little girl, but put the blame where it belongs, with irresponsible parents. There are millions of people in the U.S. that keep snakes as pets, even large constrictors, yet snake attacks are not nearly as frequent as dog attacks!
