A 2-year-old Canadian girl standing outside her great-grandmother’s home in North York over the weekend suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.
Authorities said the toddler, who was only identified by the first name Neya, was sitting in a vehicle outside her great-grandmother’s home on Sentinel Road with her legs dangling out a door, when the bullet grazed her leg.
Relatives said they were unsure how Neya had injured her leg until doctors at the hospital confirmed she was struck by a bullet.
The toddler’s family was preparing to leave the together around 10:30 p.m. Saturday when the incident occurred.
Neya is expected to make a full recovery.
Relatives said they thought the gunshots were firecrackers being set off for Canada Day.
As of press time police did not have anyone in custody.
