DNA evidence found under the victim’s fingernails lead police to arrest Edwin Alcaide Tuesday afternoon at his lower East Side Manhattan home.
Lissette Torres’ body was found on New Year’s Day 1987 in a lot beneath the Gowanus Expressway by a passerby.
Torres, who was 19 when she was murdered, left her family’s home on 44th Street near Fourth Ave. on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve 1986, promising her mother she would return to ring in the New Year with the family.
Her body was found around 7:30 a.m. the following day.
Alcaide, who was a “friend” of Torres’, was charged with second-degree murder.
A motive for the killing was not given.
