81-year-old Luis Ruiz dies on a Canarsie street after being run over by two vehicles

An 81-year-old New York City man was struck and killed by two different vehicles while jaywalking in Brooklyn Friday night.

Witnesses told police Luis Ruiz was crossing the street against the light at the intersection of Rockaway Parkway and Avenue J when he was struck by a green Mitsubishi Montero traveling northbound on Rockaway Parkway.

While the elderly man was on the ground, a dark colored sedan ran over him.  Police said the driver of that vehicle fled the scene.

Ruiz, who lived three blocks from the accident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Montero, who stayed at the scene, was not charged in the incident.
