Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the Irish-born actor who played the soccer coach in the hit movie “Bend it Like Beckhman,” was rushed to the hospital by ambulance earlier this week after he tried to take his own life.
Paramedics responding to an emergency call at Meyers’ home in England on Tuesday found the actor slumped on the floor. Police were called to the scene after Meyers, who was still conscious, refused to go to the hospital. Thirty minutes after the ambulance arrived, he was taken to the hospital.
Earlier this month, the 33-year-old actor, who had been battling a drinking problem for years, checked himself into a rehab center in South Africa. It was the fifth time that the BBC actor had checked himself into rehab.
