Twenty-eight year-old Anadita Dutta Tamuly of the Assam region of India, set the Guinness Book of Records for eating 51 of the world’s hottest chilies in two minutes last Friday.

To celebrate her world record, she shocked onlookers, including Hell’s kitchen host Gordon Ramsay, by smearing a handful of the seeds from the bhut jolokia, also known as “ghost chilies” into her eyes.

In 2007, the Guinness Book of Records recognized the bhut jolokia as the world’s hottest chilli. It has more than 1 million Scoville units, which is the scientific measurement of a chilli’s spiciness.  Jalapeno peppers measures between 2,500 and 8,000, while Tabasco sauce ranges from 2,500 to 5,000 Scoville units.

“I have been eating bhut jolokia since my childhood and never felt the hotness in my mouth,” Tamuly said. “When I was five I had a sore tongue and my mother applied a chili paste to cure the infection.  Since then I developed a penchant for chillies.”

“After that I found eating chilies was a great way to stay healthy.  Every time I have a cold or flu, I just munch on some chilies and I fell better.  To be honest, I barely notice them now,” she continued.

Ramsay, who was in India filming a TV special, took a bite of a pepper before hollering and screaming profanity saying bring my some water, “It’s too much.”

I WONDER WHAT TAMULY’S BATHROOM EXPERIENCE IS LIKE.
