Amber Turley pleaded guilty today to killing her three young children on April 19, 2009 after a night of drinking and driving.
Turley, 27, was sentenced to three two-year prison terms, to be run concurrently.
She was also ordered to serve four years of probation after her prison term.
Three children drowned early this morning after the car they were in went into Brewer Lake in Morrilton, Arkansas, officials said.
According to authorities, around 3:30a.m today a car that was driven by a 26-year-old mother, plummeted into the Arkansas lake killing the woman’s three children, all under the age of 9.
The unidentified mother told the police that the car went off the road and into the lake.
Police are currently verifying the woman’s story before deciding whether to charge her with a crime.
26-year-old Amber Turley told authorities that she tried to rescue her three boys from the vehicle but lost grip of them in the water.
Authorities said that at this point there is no reason to suspect foul play in the deaths of Aaron Turley, 8; Alex Turley, 7; and Anthony Turley, 2.
Although the woman lives in the neighborhood of the lake, she claimed she made a “wrong turn”
Authorities said that Amber Turley was drunk when she drove her car into Brewer Lake on April 19 killing her three children.
Arkansas police arrested her on Friday and charged her with three counts of felony endangerment of a child.
Turley’s father, Hopkins, called the charges against his daughter “outrageous.”
