A Georgia bride on her way to her own reception died when her newlywed husband lost control of their vehicle over the weekend in Cherokee County.

Authorities said 25-year-old Kali Shay Dobson and her 27-year-old husband, Ryan Quinton, were on her way to their wedding reception at the Wheeler House in Ball Ground around 8:30 p.m. last Sunday when Quinton lost control of his Pontiac Firebird.

Quinton told police he drove off the road after swerving to avoid hitting a dog in the roadway.

Dobson, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was ejected and trapped under the car when it finally came to a stop.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Quinton, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, was transported to Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton.

Authorities said blood was drawn from Quinton to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor to the accident.
