UPDATE: 4/17/09A police officer has been interviewed “under caution” for manslaughter after tests on a man who died during G-20 protests in London, the U.K. police watchdog said Friday.

The officer was question in connection with the death of Ian Tomlinson who died on April 1 in the city’s financial district as demonstrations took place against the G-20 summit being held in the city.

“Under caution” is a legal term which means that the person questioned is believed to be a suspect in an offense, and what that person says during the interview may be used as evidence against them in a criminal proceeding.

British politicians are calling for a criminal investigation into the death of 47-year-old Ian Tomlinson, who died during the G-20 protests in London last week.

In a video that was taken by an American, Tomlinson is seen being pushed by a police officer minutes before he collapsed and died of a heart attack.

David Howarth, a spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats said, “This video clearly shows an unprovoked attack by a police officer on a passer-by.  It is sickening.  There must be a full-scale criminal investigation.  The officer concerned and the others officers shown in the video must immediately come forward.”

Tomlinson was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital after the April 1 collapse.

His son told The Guardian that his father was not participating in the protests, he was just walking home from work.
