A retired British couple was attacked at their vacation home on the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago and according to authorities; the husband could be left permanently paralyzed.

Local authorities in Tobago said Peter Green and his wife, Murium suffered horrific facial injuries after an unknown person attacked the couple at their vacation home with a machete.

The 65-year-old man, who is suffering from internal bleeding and swelling of the brain, is currently in a medically induced coma after he was slashed across the face and head with the deadly weapon.

His 59-year-old wife suffered injuries to her nose and face and according to doctors; part of her jaw was chopped off during the attack.

Initially, authorities thought robbery was the prime motive, but Police Chief Nadir Khan said that valuables, such as jewelry and cash were left behind in the house.

The brutal attack is similar to the murder of Swedish couple, Anna Sundsval and Oke Olsooon, who were killed after being stabbed at their vacation home on the island.

No arrests have been made in either of the cases and police admitted to being baffled by the motive for the savage attacks.
