A 26-year-old British woman says she doesn’t see a problem with strapping her 2-year-old daughter to her back while she is rock climbing.

Menna Pritchard, of Wales, said “life is about taking risks….whether that’s something as simple as getting in your car every day or climbing up a rock face.”

Pritchard, who is a student and works part-time, came under fire yesterday after posting a picture on her blog of her daughter, Ffion, strapped to her back while she climbed a limestone rock face at Three Cliffs Bay, The Gower.

Readers of her blog became outraged when they saw Pritchard and her climbing partner wearing safety helmets in the photo, but Fifion’s head was exposed to potential danger of falling rocks.

Piritchard defended her actions by saying that her daughter has been strapped to her back since she was four months old when she carried her up Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales.

“Some people would say I’m taking more risks than are necessary,” Pritchard posted on her blog. “But I am very conscious of safety and I would never do anything with Ffion that I thought would put her in danger.”

This is a case of someone who became a mother yet continues to live her life as though she had no responsibilities in the world.  How selfish!
