A 49-year-old New York City man died after he crashed his vehicle into a two-story brick building in the Bronx early Thursday morning.
Residents at 1649 Overing Street were awoken around 1:00 a.m. today when a Honda Accord slammed into their Westchester Village building.
Witnesses said the sedan was traveling west on East Tremont Ave when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Overing Street. He jumped the curb, knocking down a fire hydrant, just before slamming into the building.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and his 30-year old female passenger was rushed to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition.
No one inside the building, which house Clarke & Son Signs on the main floor and six apartments on the second floor, was hurt
