One of three Canadian men playing with coins on the train tracks in Ajax was struck and killed by a train Tuesday night.

The nineteen-year-old man along with his 18 and 20-year-old friends were placing coins on the rails to be flattened, when a Via Rail passenger train, barreling through Toronto for Montreal, approached from behind and struck the man.

Sgt. Nancy Van Rooy said the Oshawa man was “killed upon impact.”

She said his friends told investigators they were unable to hear the train over the noise of the vehicles on nearby Highway 401, which runs adjacent to the train tracks.
