After 72 years on the air, CBS has cancelled the daytime soap opera “Guiding Light,” last episode will air on Friday September 18.
The network did not announce what will replace the long running day time show, but the cancellation is just another nail in the coffin for soap operas, which fewer and fewer people are watching this days.
Last year CBS had threatened to cancel the show but a change in the format, making it more of a reality show, was able to help the ratings, but not enough to keep it on the air.
The show started in 1937 as a 15-minute radio show, then switch to television in 1952, and it continued to air on the radio until 1956.
In 1968, they added another 15 minutes show and then in 1977, it went to a full hour.
