Police in China detained two Wal-Mart employees after a suspected shoplifter they had an altercation with died.
A week ago last Sunday, five Wal-Mart employees in southern China followed suspected shoplifter Yu Xiaochun into the store’s parking lot.
According to police, an altercation occurred when Yu refused to show the employees, who were not wearing their store uniforms, a receipt for the merchandise she was carrying.
In the ensuing scuffle, the 37-year-old suspected shoplifter was pushed to the ground and injured.
Last Wednesday, Yu died from her injuries.
Wal-Mart released a statement saying, “The incident and cause of death is the subject of an investigation. The company is fully cooperating with relevant authorities and will release further details as it is appropriate.”
According to reports, Yu’s husband complained that Wal-Mart did not apologize or offer any compensation for his wife’s death.
