A 21-year-old New York City woman returning home early Saturday morning died in a single vehicle accident on Staten Island.
Authorities said it is too early to say what caused nursing student Christina Battimelli to lose control of her vehicle around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
They said she was driving along College Avenue when she lost control her car and clipped the back of a parked van. Her car then went crossed a small two lane street and went head-on into a telephone pole at the corner of Carolina Place.
Battimelli was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center where she later died.
Although she was returning home from a dinner engagement with friends, a source said police do not suspect alcohol played a role in the accident.
Neighbors however said motorists routinely speed up and down the street where the accident occurred.
