For the first time in its history a Connecticut woman was crowned Miss Teen USA.

Seventeen-year-old Logan West, from Southington, was named the 30th Miss Teen USA last night at the Grand Ballroom of the Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas.

The recent Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts graduate will now spend the next year alongside Miss USA Olivia Culpo, of Rhode Island, and Miss Universe 2012, who has not yet been crowned.

West, who said her greatest accomplishment thus far is a program she started at the age of 14 to combat bullying, said she was bullied when she was in middle school.

In an interview with the Courant last year West said: “I was punched, I was kicked. There was one time I was waiting for my bus when it was raining outside.  [The bully] and her friends stabbed me with umbrellas.”

The teenager, who said she was also “spat at,” said she was too embarrassed by the situation to say anything to anyone.

West, who was named Connecticut’s Outstanding Teen in 2010, says she wants to pursue a law degree and practice family law and advocate on behalf of children in divorce cases.

Congratulations to Miss Logan West!
