The president of an Alaska oil company was killed while snowmobiling over the weekend, Alaska State Troopers confirmed on Saturday.

Jim Bowles, the president of ConocoPhillips was killed in an avalanche while he and a friend were snowmobiling near Spencer Glacier.

Around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, rescue workers called 911 after Bowles, 57, and his friend, Alan Gage, were caught in the avalanche while snowmobiling in the Grandview wilderness area.

Authorities are still searching for Gage’s body, which is believed to be buried in the snow.
