Fifty-two year old Sanford proposed to Argentinean journalist Maria Belen Chapur last week.
An Argentinean newspaper said Sanford proposed to Chapur at the Bella Italia Grill in Buenos Aires.
According to the newspaper, Sanford arrived at the upscale restaurant before Chapur and gave the ring to a waiter in a bag telling him to make up a story when Chapur enters the restaurant telling her she was the 100th customer of the day and she had won a prize.
After the waiter gave Chapur the bag Sanford emerged from the bathroom and kissed his bride to be.
The Republican, who was once considered a possible presidential contender, was busted in 2009 with Chapur in Buenos Aires after he left his office and family for six days telling them he was going hiking in the Appalachians and will be out of touch with everyone.
After he was busted, Sanford gave an interview where he admitted he had several affairs while he was married to Jenny, but he said he had found his “soul mate” with Chapur.
Shortly after that interview, Jenny Sanford moved out of the governor’s mansion with their four sons. She divorced him a year later.
