Ean Evans, Lynyrd Skynyrd Bassist, Dead At 48

Bassist Donald “Ean” Evans of the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd has died of cancer at the age of 48, Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said.

Evans, who was born in Atlanta but moved to Columbus after marrying his wife, Eva, died at his home in Mississippi on Wednesday.

In a statement that was posted on the group’s web site it said: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of longtime Lynyrd Skynyrd assist Ean Evans. Ean put up a valiant battle with an aggressive form of cancer and he will be sorely missed by family, friends and fans.”

Evans is survived by his wife and two daughters.
