Again, no one is asking for my opinion, but I am going to give it anyway. I think appointing Eric Holder as U.S Attorney General is a good move.
57-year-old Eric Holder is a partner in the law firm of Covington and Burling in Washington D.C, and was co-chief with Caroline Kennedy in Obama’s VP selection process.
Eric is a native New Yorker from West Indian parents (Barbados). He graduated from Columbia University with a B.A in 1973 and a J. D in 1976. From 1976-1988 he worked in the Justice Department -Public Integrity Dept (same department that did a very, very good job putting Senator Stevens away), before being appointed by President Reagan to serve as an Associated Judge of the Superior Court for Washington D.C.
The only baggage that Eric comes with is the pardoning of Marc Rich in 2001. In 1983, Mr. Rich and his partner were indicted for tax evasion and illegal trading with Iran. During the indictment, Mr. Rich was in Switzerland and refused to come back to the U.S and he was on the FBI Most Wanted list. Mr. Rich’s ex wife (Denise) donated to the Democratic Party and President Clinton’s library (while Clinton was still in office) and most people believe that was why Clinton pardoned Mr. Rich. In 1993, President Clinton appointed Eric as the U.S Attorney for the District of Columbia. From what people told me, Eric did not tell President Clinton to pardon Mr. Rich, instead, Eric stayed neutral, but leaning towards favoring the pardon, and on President Clinton’s last day in office, he pardon Mr. Rich.
