A 71-year-old Albuquerque, New Mexico father is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, for firing a gun shot at his two adult sons after they refused to clean the stove.

According to reports, last Monday evening Sammy Shannon pulled a .38 revolver and fired at his son after an argument about doing chores erupted.

Shannon said he asked his 22 and 29-year-old sons, who live with him and his wife, to do some chores around the house and “they didn’t want to, so they got smart, and that’s when things got physical,” the father said.

According to the police report, the sons jumped the father after he hit one of them, then the brothers pinned their elderly father down until their mother ordered them to let him go.

The father said he then went to get his revolver and fired it, not aiming at the men.

In an interview with the local media, Shannon said if his children are going to live with him, they must follow his rules.

“I can’t feed you every day, every night, take you where you want to go, send you to college and just come here lay up and play video games all day,” the father said.

Shannon is out on bond.
