Federal Prosecutor Brenda Morris told Senator Stevens that he asked for a bill to cover his butt.

   Today during cross-examination, Senator Stevens tried to keep his cool, but he almost lost it with madam prosecutor Brenda Morris.  It was reported that the short-fused Senator could be seen trying to keep his temper under control as Ms. Morris pressed him about the gifts he received from Mr. Allen.

Stevens insisted that he and his wife paid all the bills that were given to them.  He later stated to Ms. Morris, “If it was a gift, why would I ask for a bill?” Ms. Morris calmly replied, “To cover your butt.” The shocked Senator came back with, “That was very unfair ma’am.”

The seasoned Senator continued to state that he didn’t want the gifts that Mr. Allen brought him and continually asked him to either give him a bill or take them away, but Mr. Allen didn’t.

Madam Prosecutor came back with “you are a lion in the Senate, but you didn’t know how to stop this man from putting big ticket items in your house?” Ms. Morris later asked, “Why didn’t you asked for your keys back?”
