Authorities on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia are investigating the death of a 20-year-old British woman who died while swimming in her hotel’s swimming pool.

Hannah Defoe, the cousin of professional soccer player Jermain Defoe, was days into her three weeks’ vacation, when she was electrocuted in her hotel’s pool.

Reports say Hannah, who would have been 21 next month, was lying in the pool for about an hour before her body was removed.

Hannah’s mother, Janet Defoe, is said to have suffered an electric shock when she tried to rescue her daughter.  Janet Defoe is currently in a hospital on the Caribbean island.

Jermain Defoe, who plays for the Spurs, was in the U.S when he got word that his cousin had died.  Defoe’s cousin’s death comes weeks after the footballer buried his 49-year-old father, Jimmy Defoe, who died of  throat cancer.

Hannah was a performing arts student in North London.
