Reports say fifty-nine year old Roundfield and his wife were swimming off the southern tip of the island on Monday when they went beyond the protected reef area and got caught in rough waters.
His body was found about 90 minutes later trapped by rocks underwater.
The 6-foot-8 forward/center spent 12 seasons in the American Basketball Association and the National Basketball Association, playing for the Pacers (1975-1978), Hawks (1978-1984), Pistons (1984-1985) and Washington Bullets (1985-1987).
Before his death, Roundfield lived in Atlanta, where he worked for Camp Dresser & McKee Inc.
In addition to his wife, Roundfield leaves behind two sons, Corey and Christopher and a number of grandchildren.
