A 21-year-old New York City man, who recently graduated from an upstate New York college, was murdered on the streets on Harlem.

Paula Shaw-Leary said she did not want her son, Matt Shaw, in her crime ridden neighborhood for the summer.  The overprotected mother said she wanted him in Atlanta, where she sent him after he graduated with a finance degree from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, but he wanted to be home with his family and friends for the Fourth of July holiday so he came home with plans to return to the south next week.

Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday Shaw went to a neighborhood store at 128th Street and Lexington Avenue with two friends and someone opened fire hitting him in the torso.

Shaw, who was scheduled to begin a master’s program in economics in the fall at SUNY-Albany, was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Shaw-Leary is offering $5,000 to anyone who can help police find the shooter.

As of press time police did not have any suspects in custody.
