In an interview with CNN, Senator Harry Reid said, “Joe Lieberman has done something I think was improper, wrong, and I’d like if we weren’t on television, I’d use a stronger word of describing what he did. But Joe Lieberman votes with me a lot more than a lot of my Senators. He didn’t support us on military stuff and he didn’t support us on Iraq stuff. You look at his record, it’s pretty good.”
It was reported, that Senator Reid met with Senator Lieberman on Thursday, to go over Lieberman’s future with the Democratic Party. Insiders are now sayig that Senator Reid was going to ask Senator Lieberman to step down from chairing Homeland Security Committee. If he refuses, Senator Reid will ask his party’s Senators to vote on Lieberman’s fate at their caucus meeting on November 18th.
I agree with Senator Reid that Senator Lieberman’s public support for Senator McCain was very wrong, but Senator Reid and other Democrats knew since 2006, Senator Lieberman was not a loyal Democrat. Therefore, they should have never voted for him to chair such an important committee.
After he lost the Democratic primary in 2006, then decided to run as an Independent, Democrats should have known that Lieberman was always going to put Lieberman first. In my opinion, in 2006, Senator Lieberman made it clear he was not going to do what was best for the party
I think Senator Lieberman was plotting to embarrass the party since 2006, and he finally got the opportunity to do so this year, but we cannot put all the blame on Senator Lieberman, Democrats must take some of the blame for what Lieberman did.
