What would you do if your ten-year-old son or daughter tells you they were born the wrong sex? Would you encourage them to live the sex they believe they are or would you tell them to be happy with the genitals that God gave them?

All this week ABC’s “Primetime Nightline” is telling the story of 10-year-old Jackie who was born a boy named Jack.

Jackie’s parents, Jennifer and John, no last name give, said at the age of 18-months their daughter knew she was a girl.  They said Jackie used to play with her sister’s dolls and clothes and enjoyed dressing up in tutus and ballerina outfits.

At the age of 8, with tears in her eyes, Jackie told her parents “I’m a girl and I can’t do this anymore.”

 Within months, Jack became Jackie.

At first, Jackie was only allowed to dress as a girl when she was at home, but today, Jackie lives her life.  She attends school as a girl, wearing girl’s clothing and makeup.

During a section on the program which was aired on “Good Morning America,” Jennifer said she had no idea about what transgender was all about.  She said when Jackie was 2-years-old she looked it up on the internet and she was convinced the definition described her daughter.

Not everyone agrees with Jennifer and John, Jackie’s grandfather told GMA that he cannot “accept that a nine or ten-year-old can make decisions for himself that will be life lasting.”

Jackie’s story airs tonight on “Primetime Nightline’s (Extra) Ordinary Family at 10p.m. E/T

What do you think; do you agree with Jackie’s grandfather that 10 is too young?  Or, do you think there is no such thing as transgender.
