Update: 7:51 p.m.
Authorities said that the man who kidnapped Jaycee Dugard kept her in a secret backyard shed where she gave birth to two of his children.
The case began to unfold when sex offender and Dugard’s kidnapper, Philip Garrido was stopped and questioned by campus police at the University of California at Berkeley.
Authorities said the fifty-eight year old man had two children and a woman identified as Alissa, whose DNA tests later revealed was Dugard.
After being questioned by police, Garrido admitted to having abducted Dugard and said the two children were his. Tests later revealed the kids were also Dugard’s.
Garrido and his wife, Nancy, were taken into custody and held at a jail in Concord, California.
Original story
A South Lake Tahoe girl who disappeared in 1991 when she was 11-years-old is believed to be alive and well and living in northern California.
Jaycee Dugard walked into a Contra Costa law enforcement office on Wednesday and told authorities she was kidnapped 18 years ago.
According to reports, Dugard’s mother, Terry Probyn received a call at her job with the Riverside School District from the FBI on Wednesday telling her that her daughter, who was kidnapped 18 years ago 150 yards from her home as she walked to the bus stop, was alive.
Dugard’s stepfather, Carl Probyn said after FBI agents called him to say, “We’ve got Jaycee,” he had a conversation with the 29-year-old woman and he is positive that she is his long-lost daughter.
Probyn told authorities that his daughter sounds normal and he doesn’t believe she was mistreated over the last 18 years.
It is believed that Dugard abductors are now in custody.
On June 10, 1991 when she disappeared, Carl told authorities he was inside his home watching his daughter walk to the bus stop when a man and a woman in a tow-tone gray, late-model sedan made a U-turn and he saw the woman grabbed his daughter and pulled her in the car.
Dugard was never seen again, until yesterday when she walked into the police office.
El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department is planning to hold a news conference today to discuss the case.
