After a nine-hour standoff with a SWAT team, Kentucky resident Julius Harris surrendered to officers.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, police went to the home of Harris’ mother to check on her welfare.

Harris, 52, opened the door with a gun pointed to his head then locked himself in the home.

Authorities eventually persuaded Harris to surrender himself and he was arrested.

Police later found Harris’ mother decomposed body in her bed.

Authorities said Harris was living in the home with his mother, Sina Harris, 88, who died six months ago.

Unemployed Harris, whose mother was his primary source of income, was cashing the checks that his mother received from different agencies and companies.

He was charged with abusing a corpse and theft by deception.

An autopsy revealed Sina Harris died from natural causes.
