Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had surgery today for pancreatic cancer.

Ginsburg, 75, had her surgery at NY’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where she will remain for the next week.

In 1999, Justice Ginsburg had surgery for colon cancer and had chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Her cancer was discovered during a routine physical examination last month, when a CAT scan revealed a tumor measuring 1 centimeter across the center of her pancreas.

Ginsburg, who has been on the Supreme Court since 1993, is one of only two female justices ever.

The other was Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, who retired in 2006

The justices will hold their next private conference on February 20, and they will return to the bench on February 23.
