An autopsy is expected to be performed today on an 11-year-old girl who died after being hit by a boat while participating in a junior lifeguard training exercise.
Allysa Squirrell died at a California hospital on Tuesday after suffering severe injuries from the accident.
The Laguna Hills girl was one of two dozen junior lifeguards participating in a “speed drop,” which trains lifeguards to quickly reach swimmers in distress.
According to reports, the group was dropped off in the ocean off Huntington Beach and the driver of the lifeguard boat was circling to pick them up.
It is believed that the boat driver did not see the girl because the water was choppy.
