Authorities in New York City said a livery car passenger was shot in the head early this morning by a thug who tried to rob the driver.

The crime occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when the driver stopped his vehicle at a red light in Flatlands, Brooklyn.

The livery car was stopped at Utica Avenue near Avenue M when the suspect approached the driver and demanded cash.

The driver punched the suspect, who then pulled out a gun and fired hitting one of the two passengers in the back seat.

The victim was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where as of press time he was listed in critical condition.

No arrest has been made
