Around 11:30a.m today, an unidentified man attempted to commit suicide by jumping off an overpass onto Interstate 95 in Stamford, Connecticut.

According to state police, the man jumped onto the northbound lanes of the major highway causing officials to shut down the highway that connects travelers from states south of Connecticut up to the Canadian border.

Stamford resident, Victoria Mason, said she called 911 after she saw the man standing on the stone ledge of the bridge over the northbound three-lane highway.

Mason said 10 minutes later she saw the man still standing on the ledge and that’s when she called the police then asked the man if he needed help.

According to reports, several officers attempted to coax the man off the ledge, and as one officer was holding onto him, he broke loose from the officer’s grip, falling onto the highway.

The man was taken to Stamford Hospital and authorities said his injuries are not life threatening.
