Reports say the body of a 36-year-old Massachusetts woman laid at the bottom of a public swimming pool for two days unnoticed, while people were swimming in the water.

Marie Joseph drowned while swimming at the Veteran’s Memorial Pool at Lafayette Park in Fall River last Sunday, but it was not discovered until Tuesday night, when a teenager jumped the fence after the pool was closed to cool off from the heat.

Reports say a nine-year-old boy, who was at the pool with Joseph, saw when she fell into the pool and reported it to a lifeguard, but the guard ignored him.

The boy later told authorities he was going down the slide into the water when Marie, who could not swim, unexpectedly followed him, landing on top of him.

He said Joseph went under the water and when she failed to resurface, he went to the lifeguards but they ignored him.

The incident caused authorities to close all 30 state run pools.

It is unclear why friends, who were also at the pool with Joseph, failed to report her missing for two days.
