A six-year-old girl riding her bicycle in her Massachusetts neighborhood was kidnapped by a neighbor, who then tried to rape her, officials said.
According to reports, the unnamed girl managed to escape her kidnapper, Justin Shine, despite having her legs in shackles.
The child’s mother reported her missing around 1:30 on Saturday afternoon, about half-hour after she left her Hanover apartment to ride her bike.
During a door-to-door search in her apartment complex, police found the girl in shackles and after a struggle with the 26-year-old man, they arrested him and charged him with kidnapping, attempted rape, assault and resisting arrest.
During his arrangement, Shine, who appeared with a black eye he suffered in the struggle, admitted to the court he was high on cocaine when the kidnapped the girl, who is a friend of his son.
Prosecutors said he held a knife to the child’s throat then taped her hands and mouth before shackling her legs and telling her “today is your lucky day you are not going to die.”
During a search of his apartment police found sexual bondage materials, condoms and a hypodermic needle, which authorities believe he used to inject the child.
