The mayor of Hartford, Connecticut, says that he will surrender to state police on his bribery charges, but he will not resign from being the mayor.
Mayor Eddie A. Perez is accused of receiving kitchen and bathrooms renovations from a contractor that has done work for the city of Hartford.
Carlos Costa, who was arrested yesterday, is accused of doing about $20,000 worth of renovations at the Mayor’s house.
In an interview with a local newspaper, the mayor said, “There is no excuse for it. I apologize for putting my family and my city under this situation…..at the ending of the day, a lapse in judgment is not a crime.”
Is this man for real, I have three words for you mayor, SENATOR TED STEVENS!!!
The mayor’s attorney told reporters that it is likely that the mayor will also be charged with fabricating evidence and conspiracy to fabricate evidence.
