A Charlotte, North Caroline woman was arrested after a driver found her 2-year-old daughter wandering along a road and called 911.

The incident occurred last Tuesday when a passerby saw the toddler in soiled pamper walking in the middle of the narrow road with a doll in her hands.

Deputies canvas the neighborhood for hours before tracking down the child’s grandparents, who told authorities that their daughter, Tammy Medlind, who is the child’s mother, was drinking in a bar.

“Our officers went out, spent about two hours going door to door and couldn’t find anyone who knew the child or where the child belonged or anybody that might be responsible for the child,” Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson said.

Police said Medlind drove drunk and without a license to her parents home, where deputies were waiting with her daughter.

Atkinson said Medlind was a regular visitor at her mother’s house, but “no prior arrangement had been made with the grandparents to look out for the child.”

She was charged with child neglect, driving under the influence and driving with a revoked license.
