A former Macy’s employee, who was fired from her job for refusing to allow a transgendered person from using the woman’s fitting room, has filed a complaint with the Federal Employment Commission claiming that her religious believes prevent her from recognizing transgendered people.

Natalie Johnson, of San Antonio, Texas, claims she was fired from her job at the River Center Macy’s last week after she refused to allow a transgendered person, who looked like a man, from using the women’s dressing room.

Johnson said she had been watching the customer from the minute he walked into her department because it was obvious he was a man shopping for women’s clothing.

She said as he tried to enter the dressing room, she stopped him and said: “You are a man,” which she said “really got him steamed”.

Twenty-seven year old Johnson, who was working for the retail giant part-time while in college full-time, said she later told her manager that because of her religious believes she had to make a decision and she decided to “refuse to comply with [the store’s] policy.

Johnson said she was then fired.

Macy’s policy allows transgendered individuals to use the fitting room of the gender they have chosen.

Johnson told a local reporter: “there are no transgenders in the world.  A guy can dress up as a woman all he wants, that’s still not going to make you a woman.”

Johnson has the support of the Liberty Council, a conservative Christian group dedicated to religious freedoms.

The group said  Macy’s should change its policy regarding transgender people.

Macy’s has refused to publicly comment on the story.

I see this making its way to the Supreme Court
