A 31-year-old Pennsylvania woman is accused of assaulting hospital staff after ingesting bath salts shortly after giving birth.
Authorities said Carla Murphy, of Altoona, was in the maternity ward at the Altoona Regional Hospital on June 17 when she attached hospital staff shortly after taking the synthetic stimulant.
On the day of the incident, hospital staff found Murphy completely naked rolling around on the shower floor unable to answer basic questions being posed to her.
As nurses tried to escort her back into her room it became obvious that Murphy, who was cussing and acting aggressively, was on drugs that were not administered by them.
After Murphy punched a hospital nurse who tried to dress her police were called. With permission from Murphy’s mother officers searched her bag and found “Disco”, which is a brand of bath salts.
Murphy’s live-in boy, who is also the child’s father, later told police that he was aware that his girlfriend had been addicted to bath salts.
Murphy was charged with aggravated assault and various drug counts.
