Around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, a 28-year-old man was killed after he drove his car into the basement of a Long Island home, NY officials confirmed.
Garden City Park police said Jonathan Leiz of Bellmore was killed after he sped his vehicle through a stop sign and landed in the basement of a home belonging to Annette Giudice, who had just celebrated her 72nd birthday.
A tearful Giudice told a local NY reporter that she was awakened by “an instant bang. After we heard the bang, we ran down, and everything was silent.”
Giudice said she then asked her 48-year-old son Raymond, who lives with her, “What happened?”
Police said Leiz, 28, was killed after his 1997 Infiniti hit the curb when he sped through a stop sign before landing in Giudice’s home.
Passengers Jose Varraos, 23, of Freeport and Alden La-Rocca, 26, of Mineola were both critically injured.
It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
Building officials found structural damage to Giudice’s home and condemned the building.
