A 74-year-old New York City woman jumped to her death onto the tracks of an elevated subway station in the Bronx during rush hour on Thursday.
Witnesses told police as the northbound Number 1 train pulled into 231st Street Station around 9:30 a.m. today, the woman jumped in front of the train.
She was pronounced dead on the scene.
Witnesses described seeing the woman’s body dangling under the tracks about 30 feet above street level.
“When I saw the torso and leg on the tracks, I instantly started shaking,” a 26-year-old said. “The body was hanging on the tracks with a leg coming through.”
As of press time, police were still trying to identify the woman.
