A single vehicle accident upstate New York ended with the driver dead.

Authorities said Russhelle Thompson was traveling northbound on the NY Thruway around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday when a tire on her vehicle blew out near the town of Coxsackie in Hudson Valley.

Police said 34-year-old Thompson may have overcorrected the SUV causing the vehicle to spin out of control hitting a guardrail in the center median.  The vehicle became airborne and crossed the southbound lane before coming to rest upside down in a drainage ditch.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 12-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle.  As of press time the unnamed girl, who suffered internal injuries, was listed in critical condition.

Three other passengers between the ages of 12 and 21, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, were taken to Albany Medical Center.
