Toronto police are investigating one of their own who allegedly showed up to work drunk.

Supt. Earl Witty, a 38-year veteran who supervised Toronto’s Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere campaigns, is accused of arriving for work at traffic services on Hanna Street drunk.

He was placed on paid suspension while authorities investigate the allegations.

Reports say Witty’s subordinated reported the incident.

If authorities determine that charges should be laid against the officer, the matter would go before a hearing officer who would determine the appropriate penalty. If Witty accepts wrongdoing he could avoid what could be a very embarrassing hearing.

Witty, who worked very closely with MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, was scheduled to present a plaque to the police division that performed the best during the holiday RIDE campaign.
