A passenger on board a Super King Air two-engine turboprop with four other passengers on board was forced to land the airplane after the pilot became incapacitated.

According to reports, a passenger on board the aircraft from Marco Island, Florida, heading to Jackson, Mississippi, was forced to land the aircraft safely with the help of air traffic controllers.

Shortly after the pilot notified air controllers he was at 9,000 feet and climbing, a passenger told them that the pilot was unconscious and they needed help immediately.

With help from two air traffic controllers, they were able to help the unidentified passenger, who was certified to fly single engine aircrafts, disengage the autopilot, while others reroute other aircrafts in the area transmitting emergency information to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.

The death of the pilot was confirmed after the plane landed, but the cause of death and the pilot’s name was not released.

After they landed, the family took a commercial plane home.
