A Pastor in Stephens County Georgia was shot and killed on Tuesday following a drug sting.

Pastor Jonathan Ayers of the Shoal Creek Baptist Church was pronounced dead at Stephens County Hospital on Tuesday after undercover officers opened fire on the 28-year-old pastor.

According to authorities, officers had been involved in an undercover drug sting in Toccoa, and the target of the sting was a woman who was sitting in the pastor’s car.

Police said Ayers dropped the unnamed woman off then drove to a Shell gas station where the undercover officers followed him.

Undercover officers approached the father-to-be at the gas station and identified themselves and according to police, Ayers put his car in reverse and struck one of the officers.

Police said as the pastor was about to hit another cop with his car they opened fired and a shot hit Ayers.

Ayers then sped away and crashed his car about half a mile from the scene of the shooting.

The woman in the pastor’s car, who was a known cocaine dealer, was later arrested and charged with selling cocaine.

Investigators said they did not find drugs in Ayers’ car.
