Canadian officials said a 41-year-old Toronto man who was shot and killed by York Regional police last week was responsible for the death of his ex-girlfriend, whose body was found in a laneway near Dufferin Mall several hours earlier.

York Regional police said Paul Black had shot and killed his ex-girlfriend Andrene Graham shortly after they met near Dufferin Mall around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Graham was found bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head behind Chesley Drive.  She was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Police searching for Black several hours later found him in Richmond Hill.  Authorities have not said what caused officers to fired their weapons at Black.

It is unclear why the couple, who had dated for three years but had been separated since July 2011, had agreed to meet at the mall.

Police said they are not searching for anyone else in the shootings.
