It unknown whether Alexander “Alex” Okrent had been ill when he collapsed at the office on Friday.
Okrent of the 300 block of Dewey Avenue in Evanston was pronounced dead at 11:45 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Both President Obama and presidential candidate Mitt Romney sent condolences immediately after Okrent was pronounced dead.
“A beloved member of our campaign family, Alex Okrent, passed away today. Our prayers are with his loves ones. We will miss you, Alex-bo”, President Obama tweeted.
Romney tweeted: “Ann and & I were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Alex Okrent. Prayers are with Alex’s loved ones and the entire Obama campaign team.”
Before his death Okrent had been working on advertising for Obama’s re-election. Alex’s father, Mike Okrent, said his son was dedicated and passionate about progressive politics, and about Obama in particular.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation, 303 Dodge Ave. in Evanston.
