It has just come to my attention that Noble Prize and Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, editor and professor, Toni Morrison’s son, Slade Morrison, has died.

It is believed that the Rockland County resident passed away at Nyack Hospital on December 22.

Forty-five year old Slade and his mother collaborated on four books; their latest, “The Tortoise or the Hare” was released on September 7, 2010.

Toni Morrison started her professional career as an English teacher at Texas southern University in Houston before returning to alma-mater Howard University.

The senior Morrison wrote her first novel, “The Bluest Eye” in 1970, while teaching at Howard.  In 2000, it was chosen as a selection for Oprah’s Book Club.

In 1987, her novel “Beloved” became a critical success and won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. In1993, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature

My deepest condolences to the Morrison family.
